I need to update my operating system. My MacAir won't allow it.
It is currently running on macOS Big Sur 11.7.10. MacBook Air 13-inch, Early 2014
When attempting up update the OS, I receive a message that Your Mac is up to date - MacOS Big Sur 11.7.10
Without being able to do an OS update, I can't update my MSOffice apps

The current version of LibreOffice will run on Bug Sur. However, if you already have an older version of Microsoft Office and it us working well enough, you may want to stick with it.
Thanks. I'm concerned about security updates. Perhaps I should give in and buy a newer Mac, though I hate discontinuing my current tech that works well.

Big Sur still receives automatic XProtect security updates, as do even earlier macOS versions.

You might want to install Firefox. The current version will run on Catalina and later - including Big Sur.
