Is the iPad dead ?

Bonjour,

This iPad 6 (2018) suddenly stopped working.

I can only get it to pretend to be ready to restore (wipe) the OS. I say pretend, because when connected to a Mac to do it, the process fails as soon as it's time to "send" info to the iPad. The iPad then just reboots. Consistently, this is all that happens.

I've of course tried all the restart/reset options, holding down power + home etc...

I've read that the CPU might get loose over time, and as much as this sounds like a great concept idea for a product of this price range, I am hoping there might be something a normal civilian like me could do about it ?

Thank you for your help !

Your iPad might not be the issue. It is equally possible that your inability to restore the iPad is a problem with your Mac.

Try restoring your iPad from a Windows PC (with iTunes for Windows installed) or another Mac computer (with iTunes or Finder - as appropriate for the installed version of macOS). If you don't have access to another suitable computer, the technicians at the Genius Bar of an Apple Store or AASP will be able to assist - for no charge.

If you continue to experience difficulties, you will need to seek assistance directly from from Apple Support. You can contact the Support Team using the Support link at top-right or bottom-left of this page. Alternatively, you can initiate and manage your support cases from Apple devices using the excellent Apple Support App. If not already installed on your iPad, the App can be downloaded from the App Store:

You might also visit the Genius Bar at your local Apple Store or Apple Authorised Service Provider (AASP) - where the technicians will be able to test and assess your iPad:

Hi Lotus,

Thank you for jumping in,

I have actually already had an Apple support technician assist me via chat and we went over all the steps I described. He wasn't able to revive the iPad.

I was looking for some more in depth solution that I might be able to fix myself, since the cost of bringing it to any repair facility especially Apple's, is not going to be aligned with the current value of the item. It should cost $20 to repair but it will probably cost 300.

Anyway I understand maybe there is no solution. But if there is one, it will come from someone who really understands microelectronics.

Thanks anyways !
