Problem updating to MacOS Sonoma

I am currently on MacOS Catalina(10.15.7) on a MacBook Pro, and am trying to upgrade to MacOS Sonoma or Monterey. I am able to download the update and run the installation. However, when the installation finishes and the computer restarts, I get an error message that says: "Storage system verify or repair failed.: (-69716)." . I thought maybe the download was corrupted somehow, so I removed it then downloaded the update again and re-installed. Unfortunately, I got the same error when I tried to restart. Any ideas on what this error is and how to fix it?

I would reccommend that you update in steps as this article is recommending. So first to Big Sur, then to Monterey, then to Ventura, and Then to Sonoma. You can download the macOS versions from here:

Does your MacBook features a Fusion Drive? You might need to reinitialize the Fusion Drive via the terminal, but do that only if the above steps didn't work for you

Try to boot into macOS recovery , CMD+R on startup. First, run disk utility and repair your startup disk. (by performing disk first aid) after that, try the installation again
