Attempting to update computer and it’s giving an error system storage verify or repair failed. : (-69716) . Plenty of storage space (33.17 gb). What should I do? I don’t want to erase the hard drive.

I don't believe 33GB is enough Free storage space for installing macOS Ventura. I would definitely have much more Free space than the bare minimum anyway. If 33GB is the minimum, then you should also add another 20GB+ because that is what macOS needs to run safely. Also, ignore the "Available" storage value shown everywhere in macOS since it does not indicate storage space that can be used immediately. Only the Free storage space value is important and that is most easily see in Disk Utility.
If you are running Disk Utility First Aid on the volume, then you may need to run First Aid while booted into Internet Recovery Mode. In fact, I would make sure to run First Aid on the hidden Container. Within Disk Utility click "View" and select "Show All Devices" before the hidden Container appears on the left pane of Disk Utility. Even if the First Aid summary says everything is "Ok", click on "Show Details" and scroll through the report to see if any unfixed errors are listed. Run First Aid until all errors are gone. If after several scan there are still errors, then most likely they cannot be repaired which means you will need to perform a clean install of macOS.
