USB PORTS DEACTIVATED

USB PORTS DISABLED SAYS DEVICE NEEDS MORE POWER.

I HAVE UNPLUGGED, RESTARTED, RAN DIAGNOSTICS ALL WITH NO ISSUES FOUND.

JUST THE USB PORTS AND THUNDERBOLT PORTS INACTIVE.

IS THERE NOT AN AREA IN THE SYSTEMS WHERE THEY CAN BE REACTIVATED???

iMac 21.5″, macOS 13.6

Please do not type in all caps, that is considered shouting when posting on the Internet and we can hear you just fine.

If you have some USB devices plugged into a hub that does not have a power supply that is your problem. Please either get another hub that has its own power supply or plug the devices into the back of the Mac.

However these are guesses as you did not post any info that tells us what USB devices or what they are plugged into.

Also, try restarting in Safe Mode and restarting normally and retesting.

Apologies, I for the all caps. thank you for the advice. Although, it is all the USB ports the Thunder ports as well I keep getting a msg that states USB Devices disabled Device needs more Power. the only to items connected were a wireless mouse and another Monitor. I had been away for around a month I returned and now they're not functioning. I have restarted in Safe Mode they still haven't worked I have unplugged everything before, after, during start up. Have tried various combinations. and have gone into the system. settings looking for an area that allows you to activate or deactivate usb ports.

You did not tell us:

  • What the USB items are.
  • What they are plugged into
  • When you restarted in Safe Mode did the computer indicate it was in Safe Mode in the upper right of the display.

Also, it would be VERY helpful if we knew the model year of the iMac and the version of Mac OS installed. You may benefit by looking over Writing an effective Apple Support Communities Question.

By the way, do you have any third party:

  1. Antivirus apps installed
  2. Cleaning apps installed
  3. Security apps installed
  4. Maintenance apps installed
  5. VPN apps installed
