Books app has become unusable on MacBook Air

In the last few weeks Books app has become unusable as any books I purchase and download are frequently going to a white screen with this message in the middle of it,

I click on reload book and the text will eventually render on the page again. I have tried removing the download and redownloading, closing and opening the app, but nothing seems to make any difference!

Very frustrating!
