Stuck in “Preparing macOS Sonoma 14.1.2" for more than two hours.

Trying to add the latest patch level. Updated to 14.1.1 when it came out without problems but now it just hangs saying “Preparing macOS Sonoma 14.1.2... About 30 minutes remaining.” The blue bar isn't moving att all for more than two hours.

Same issue. Different version (14.4.1 for me).

Rebooting in Safe Mode and trying again still results in getting stuck at "Preparing..." with "30 minutes remaining". I have let it sit for hours with no change. Laptop has tons of disk space. I hardly use this laptop and just booted it up for the first time in several weeks (current version 14.4)

Try booting into Safe Mode according to How to use safe mode on your Mac and install from there.

Note:  if you have a wireless keyboard with rechargeable batteries connect it with its charging cable before booting into Safe Mode.  This makes it act as a wired keyboard as will assure a successful boot into Safe Mode.

Also if you can connect your MBP to the router via Ethernet (if the MBP has Ethernet) it will be faster and more reliable.

Shut down the Mac, wait a while and reboot it. Also, check if the wifi connection is alright. Maybe, even better if you reset your router, before you reboot your Mac.

I have updated to this 14.1.2. Sometime while updating, the login page came up, so I logged in, then had to wait about another 9 minutes while it finished installing the update.
