How do I turn off screen mirroring on MacBook Pro

I can only see the option to choose the devices I can share to I want it off and it stays on mirrored to my tv external display

Screen mirroring So I go into the control centre on my MacBook Pro and choose Screen Mirroring. I get options for my connected devices. I choose the one I've called, Living Room, which is my Apple TV. I get the option to "Mirror-Built-in Retina Display", or "Use as Separate Display". I choose "Mirror-Built-in Retina Display". My MacBook Pro's screen is now on my Living Room TV. Excellent. Just what I wanted. Later, I want to stop mirroring my MacBook Pro on my TV. I go to the Control Centre on my MacBook Pro, click on Screen Mirroring, expecting to see an option that says something like, Stop Mirroring... But there is no such option. I can change it to "Use as Separate Display" if I want, but not turn it off completely. How do I get my TV screen back to just being a TV screen, and my MacBook Pro's screen to just being on my MacBook Pro? If there is an option to turn something on in the Control Centre, surely there'd be an option to turn it off in the same place, right? Very frustrating.

How to stop mirroring MacBook Air screen? I have an mp trio external screen that I've successfully attached to older Macbook pros. But I recently purchased a MacBook Air and am trying to connect my external screen. It's connected, however all it does it mirror my laptop screen. I've clicked on system preferences and unchecked the 'show mirroring options...' and have searched the help on both apple and the external screen's site. They keep point to an "arrangement" tab, but I don't see it on my systems preferences. Any tips on how I can get it to stop mirroring my screen? Thanks.

How to completely prevent screen mirroring on MacBook Air with macOS Monterey ? I would like to find a way to completely disable accidental screen mirroring of my MacBook Air's screen (with macOS Monterey) onto other displays. Or at least a way that would ensure that I would have to go through a number of complex steps to allow me to authorise my computer to export its screen somewhere else. I work with sensitive personal information about students in my care, and I find it highly worrying/dangerous that a small mis-click in the control panel shown in the attached image can (and already twice today has!) resulted in me sharing my screen with a random person in a neighbouring room. I don't want to EVER screen share without at least one dialog box asking me "Are you sure?" (or similar) to prevent accidental data-privacy breaches. I already know how to disable OTHERS sharing things to MY screen. That is controlled by SystemPreferences -> Sharing -> ScreenSharing [tickbox enable / disable]. So don't tell me how to do that. I also know how to turn off a share (of my screen to an external display) if one has already begun. So don't tell me how to do that either. But please do tell me about any way I can semi-permanently prevent is MY screen being shared to OTHERS which doesn't require me to disconnect from wifi and turn bluetooth off etc. That's too brutal. I can find no suitable controls to configure this -- which is a shame as in all other respects the macbook is quite secure.

Turning off Mirror the Screen to an External Display:

If looking to turn off mirroring to an external display, perform the following will mirror the Home Screen, and it will allow you to use it as an expanded display.

Without Touchbar: Hold Down [command + F1]
With Touchbar: Hold Down: [command + dull screen]

Drag your cursor to the top and you should have an icon that looks kind of like two screens and if you click on it you will have the option to stop. Alternatively, you can turn it off via the TV or shut down the Mac Book.

Using the screen mirroring icon in the status bar, you can click on display settings > select the device you are mirroring to > select disconnect.

what model MacBook Pro, exactly? which processor, exactly? some do not support multiple unique external displays.
