How do I stop screen mirroring from MacBook Air to Apple TV?

I often use mirror screening from my MacBook Air to my Apple TV to watch live various stream shows. I know how to turn it on, but when I am done mirroring, there used to be a way to turn it off by using Command-F1 (I Think) but that doesn't seem to work anymore for some reason. It doesn't take my laptop back to completely disconnected nor does it disconnect completely from the Apple TV. There may have been a change to this procedure since an update maybe? So can you tell me how to turn mirroring off completely? macOS Bir Sur V 11.7.10

TIA

Ron

  • If you use the in-app AirPlay controls in the Apple TV app, or QuickTime Player, or Safari’s web video controller, then the Mac and Apple TV box will disconnect the AirPlay connection automatically when the video reaches its end. It can be ended manually by clicking the AirPlay button again (or the checkbox for the Apple TV box).
  • If you use Screen Mirroring, then the connection will be active until the Mac disconnects that function. You can deactivate screen mirroring from the Control Center or optionally directly from the Screen Mirroring menu (which can be configured to show when active, or all the time – through the System Settings for Control Center).
  • If you use the Apple TV Remote’s Back or Menu button, then the AirPlay connection will be severed immediately by the Apple TV box, including during playback.
