Three iPhone charging cables (a misnomer because cord is too thin and bends and breaks connection) I have owned and paid too much for have only lasted an average of a year or less! Why? How to get a warranty, a free replacement, or recommended better product and where available?

Use a Braided Cable:
My cable is used ether in the car, or is off my desk. And I've leaned to use a brained cable, which Is more rugged, and more ideal if you have to go around corners, such as right angles on a desk. So, consider using one of that type: mophie USB-C to Lightning Cable (1 m) - Apple
Try Anker cables. They very well built.
I have many Apple cables. They have lasted for years. The only failures I've ever had were from my cats chewing on them. For some reason, cats love Apple cables...
My wife has destroyed several by yanking on the cord to disconnect them instead of grasping the plug at the end of the cable.
Perhaps you should be more careful.
