Should the recovery partition under disk images be called ”disk1s1” when using internet recovery mode?

So I was going to factory reset my computer and found that erasing the sdd in disk utility was possible.

I noticed there were two options:

command + R. For local

and

option+command + R for internet recovery mode.

i chose internet recovery mode as it installs the absolute latest version of macos possible whereas the local one just install the one I currently I have.

However, in disk utility the disk images. Under apple disk image media, the recovery partition is called ”disk1s1” when using the internet recovery mode.

but when using local recovery mode the same is called ”macos base system”.

i thought these were supposed to be the same thing. The recovery partition which cant be erased, edited, deleted etc.

is it supposed to have different names in different modes?

(im using a 2019 intel basdd macbook).

Internet recovery creates more than 25 RAM disks to hold temporary items, so that you drive can be completely clear to be erased. You sometimes discover that your boot drive has a disk number higher than 25.

You almost NEVER manipulate drives or partitions by their disk1s1 kinds of names.

YOU don't get to do anything with items names MacOS Base System either. They are locked.

The numbering scheme is realtive not absolute.

The "macos base system" is your Recovery —yes.

MacOS Base system is the name used for a stripped down, minimal MacOS. When it is size about 2 Bytes, it is likely to be Recovery system. If you encounter one over 8GB in size, that is more likely to be the installer of an incoming MacOS install set.

The one used for Internet Recovery is typically a disk image, pulled form the Mac's internal ROM.

References like disk1s1 are created anew every time your Mac is restarted, so they can NOT be counted on, Restart to Restart, to stay the same.

Drives are referred to by name like disk1s1 in the Terminal environment, or extremely rarely disk1s1 names will be MENTIONED inside Disk Utility. Disk Utility generally does not manipulate names like disk1s1.

For your convenience, most of the names you use to refer to disks are more normal sounding, like Macintosh HD. You almost never manipulate disk1s1 names unless you are applying Terminal commands, and because disk1s1 names are re-derived on every Restart, they can be very trouble-prone.

thanks for response!

so its meant to be called disk1s1 while in internet recovery mode?

which mode do you recommend to erase ssd the disk and reinstall macos in?

internet recovery where its called disk1s1? Or local recovery mode where its called mscos base system?

i saw someone saying internet mode is better cause it installs latest but if the disk1s1 will be wrong then I prefer not.
