When trying to login into my iCloud account I get a message “This email address is not available. Choose a different address.”

Using Google Chrome web browser Version 119.0.6045.199 (Official Build) (x86_64)

When trying to log in to iCloud on the browser: I enter my Apple ID email & password, both fine. Then, verify two-factor authentication with a 6-digit code. Still all good. Then, the site tells me I need to verify my email first:

"Verify your email address.

Your Apple ID email address must be verified before you can sign in. Verify the address below or choose a different address to use as your Apple ID."

My Apple ID email address (same one I used in the first login window) is pre-entered for me in the text box provided. My options are 'Cancel' or 'Continue' so obviously, I click the blue 'Continue' button. Here's where it gets interesting and, I'll just say it-- downright fun. 🙄

After clicking 'Continue', it generates the message, “This email address is not available. Choose a different address.”

Please keep in mind that I am not trying to create a new Apple ID. I am trying to log into iCloud.com with my existing (without issue since 2005) Apple ID. This email is "not available" for a new Apple ID because I am using it. But, I am simply trying to log in to the site to get online access to my items synced to iCloud.

Please help... I feel like I am taking crazy pills at this point. I have tried multiple times and the process keeps repeating itself, even after emptying the Cache, quitting, and restarting the browser.

More info... I am currently logged in on all my Apple devices with this same Apple ID, using the "not available" email. None of them are currently having any issues that I am aware of. These include:

  • MacBook Air - 13-inch, Early 2015; 2.2 GHz Dual-Core Intel Core i7; macOS Monterey, Version 12.7
    • this is the computer I am currently using with Chrome
    • iPad - 9th Gen, (2022), iPadOS Version 16.6.1
    • iPhone 14 - iOS 17.1.2
    • Watch SE - WatchOS 9.6.3(20U502)

Also... Checked System Status and all iCloud Systems are greenlight. One issue previously resolved:

You can edit mail address from Mac system preferences , click on plus sign to add a mail address it will become Apple ID and verified , to remove an old mail address ( it was Apple ID previously ) , click on minus sign see the article Change Sign-In & Security settings for your Apple ID on Mac - Apple Podpora (SI)

Change your existing Apple ID Change your Apple ID - Apple Support (IN) say example1@mac.com to a different Apple ID say example2@gmail.com , the trusted number is still verified , so when you sign in with new Apple ID at www.icloud.com the code will go to the trusted number essentially when Mac and iPhone are signed in with same Apple ID and password on the same network ( if iPhone is also signed in with say example1@mac.com , the Apple ID is changed from Mac , so its to be updated on iPhone What to do after you've changed your Apple ID or password - Apple Support

If trusted device is not synced with Mac , when you sign in with account credentials at www.icloud.com , the new mail address will be shown , enter Mac admin password , click on continue the account is accessed .

Hi,

Thank you so much for the reply. In short, my apologies. I don't speak too much 'tech'. 🤔 But, are you saying the only way to remedy this is to change my Apple ID? I did not even have that on my radar because it would cause absolute chaos... it is tied to a lifetime of "things," and I would be forever updating user IDs and passwords. (No bueno.😢)

Surely there is another way...?🧎🏻‍♀️📿🙏 I've had this ID since before they were called IDs. I've not needed to change it before for anything. Is there perhaps, maybe, hopefully, another suggestion you (or anyone reading) might have? 🙏

Many thanks!
