iPad turns on automatically

At the end of the day, I follow the same procedure:

    1. Plug in the iPad.
    2. Go to settings and turn off iPad.

Undoubtedly, every morning, the iPad will be on.

I am very frustrated with this because I prefer to charge my iPad while it is off to help preserve battery life. I don’t know who the genius was that decided plugging in an off iPad should turn it on, but the first month of owning this iPad, I didn’t know that was happening. I have combed through every setting on this machine and have not found anything that will let me control the on/off functions with relation to when the charging cord is plugged in. And, I have tried calling Apple Support for simpler problems, but they seem to have trouble with those, so I’d prefer to avoid calling Apple Support.

If anyone can help, I’d greatly appreciate it.

Thank you.

I have stopped charging the iPad overnight. I charge it during the day, now. I started doing that on Christmas day.

Yesterday, i had to stop working early, and my iPad never turned on while it was charging. I’ve continued to charge it during the morning before work and/or extended breaks, and it’s never turned on by itself.

Does anyone have ideas why this is happening?
