Old IPad will not connect to iPhone 11 hot spot?

I have an old iPad first or second gen. The only internet access we have is the hotspot on our iPhone 11’s. I’ve tried to connect to the phones hotspot, but to no avail. Password is correct. Any help would be appreciated.

If you are having difficulty connecting to your iPhone hotspot with your iPad 1/2, try changing your iPhone’s hotspot setting to Maximise Compatibility:

Settings > Personal Hotspot > Maximise Compatibility - set to ON
