I don't see how to point to it when I select the basic Apple /Photos menu option nothing shows. Using the plus selector and going to remote disk photoslibrary im activily using is see only parent folder and no result as well

option key doesn't help . maybe it's time for a new mac. 10yr old Imac wont update further.
You can only use the current library for Photos.
Maybe I'm misunderstanding or not being clear. Of course I don't have Catalina installed any more but when you open Photos, you do see your pictures?
It may have dawned on me what you meant. Are you holding the option key when opening Photos? Then trying to navigate to a Photos Library stored on an external drive?
