I replaced my 160gb hard drive in iPod classic because the original hard drive was defective. Now the iPod continually reboots. It starts up to the Apple logo and within a few seconds shuts down and restarts. Never ending. I was able to get the iPod into disc mode and connected it to my computer. The computer sees the iPod but iTunes does not. I can read the contents of the hard drive through file explorer. What else can I try?

I do not have any way to check the software version. The iPod classic does not boot up. It just keeps restarting. The only thing I can do is get it into disk mode. And iTunes does not find the device while it is disk mode.
That article appears to be for iPhones, not an iPod Classic.
