Hi,

I'm getting this error message "Check the server name or IP address, check your network connection, and then try again" when I try to access my Windows computer on my home network. I never had problems before... I don't understand why this message suddenly appeared keeping me from accessing the shared folder on my XP based computer.

Okay. Let's try it from the top.

What's the Mac's IP address, and what's the Winbox's IP address? Also, what are their subnet masks? We need to make sure that they are on the same networks.

What happens when you set the Mac to use DHCP? If you set the address manually, the Mac may not actually be on the correct network.

Also, try to ping the DHCP server (usually the router on your network) from the Mac. It may be that the Mac is not actually on the same network as the WinBox.

Nothing happened when I did set the Mac to use DHCP, it even took the 192.168.1.99 IP address itself.
Worst, I can't even see the PC anymore in the finder's sidebar.

Do you Stealth mode on in the Mac's System Preferences->Security, Firewall tab, Advanced button?

Doesn't surprise me. 3rd-party firewalls do that sort of thing on WIndows all the time.
