Pdfs won't open

I updated to iOS 17.1.1 three days ago and suddenly all my newly aquired PDF files flicker when I try to save or open them. These that already are in iCloud on my ipad will open but as soon as I touch an area to copy text the same thing happens.

The behavior occurs for a PDF attachment in email, a PDF download a PDF already in iCloud Files. Lots of flashing/blinking and then turns to a white screen that shows the file information instead of showing the actual pdf on screen.

Had hoped the 17.2 update last night would help but it did not.

I have an ipad that is still running iOS 14 and these same pdfs will open just fine and allow me to copy areas of text so I can paste the information elsewhere- such as a policy number in an email or paste an amount into a spreadsheet.

So disappointed. Is there any known work around until Apple can get this fixed?
