usb connection

hi,

i have a question about usb connection (i have a macbook pro 2012).

i'm a musician and i use a lot of usb devices for my live setup.

i know the question sounds strange because the solution would be using a simple usb hub!

but still i'd like to know if i could use the ethernet port or the thunderbolt port to connect a usb device into them (for instance using a usb-to-ethernet adaptor and plug a usb device into the ethernet port).

any ideas?

Thunderbolt yes, ethernet no.

You can use a USB to thunderbolt adapter or hub and add more USB ports to the Mac.

The ethernet port cannot be used for this.

Mini-display port is a video output not data. It cannot be converted to USB.

If the port is full Thunderbolt 1 or 2 then you can convert it to USB through a dock or hub, as the signal needs to be processed. but it must be Thunderbolt. It cannot be just a Mini-Displayport port. They use the same port type, but the signals are different.

Don't think there any direct adapters between Thunderbolt 1 / 2 and USB given the amount of signal processing required.

Perhaps a USB HUB on one of the existing ports may be more useful.

That way you get multiple USB ports you can use. For most things this should be enough. If you need more bandwidth and cannot share it with other devices over a USB HUB, then you will need a Thunderbolt Dock / hub with USB ports.
