Stuck on white screen after all kinds of key shortcuts.

Hi there! I have a MacBook Pro with High Sierra.

So this one its kinda tricky...

When I press the power button it turns on , the logo appears , then the progress bar starts to load, but it gets to about 70% and the screen goes completly white.

This is what happens most of the time.

So I did the command + alt + R , for the internet restauration option ... I connected to the wifi , the progress bar completes , then it goes to the apple logo , progress bar again and it goes to about 70% again and blank screen... if I do the reset , then power button , then command + option + p + r , the screen goes black and it takes me to the login , but when I click on it it goes to the apple logo , progress bar etc etc...

I try the command + R , for the recovery mode , but it doesnt work , I dont think it even recognize it because when I press the command + R button it goes to the apple logo , progress bar etc etc as if I was not pressing anything different....

Now the weird part is , one time I manage to get to the safe mode , the pc started with the safari browser window open but I couldnt go into any website , but there was the option to go to the recovery HD option , but I didnt knew what to do so I restarted the macbook again and it went back to the apple logo , progress bar etc etc... and I cant get to the recovery HD again no matter what I do , I cant seem to remember what I did to make it work like that or if it was lucky...when I had the options on MacOS utilities to restore , reinstall , or disk utilities , I clicked on the reinstall MacOS , but it gave me the -Recovery server could not be contacted- error... so yeah...is it a faulty HDD? ou my macbook is gone?

Hi again!! I manage to get to the Disk utility again! I dont know exactly what I did , but I did the command + options + P + R three times in a row , then I did the command + option + R , completed the progress bar and right after it complete the bar I hold LEFT SHIFT while the new progress bar was rolling , then it finally completed and sent me to that MacOS utitlities screen.

SO now , Ive try to Reinstall MacOS , but it gave the =The recovery server could not be contacted-

So I went to the Disk utility like you said , I mounted the Internal HD , wich was unmounted .I did the first AID thing . so now I dont know what to do...Im not sure that I can comeback to this screen again so I wanna make sure that Im doing EVERYTHING that can be done here...

Getting into Recovery Mode:

If you were able to get in to it, while troubleshooting this, then obviously it is operable. So, perform the following...

Reset your SMC and your NVRAM:

(Applies to Intel-Basel Macs Only) Sometimes changes (i.e. Installations) are made to the system and then settings (i.e. keyboard keys) become corrupted, technically. So, reset both on your Mac. So, reset the SMC and reset the NVRAM or PRAM. It might take three tries to fix this. So, be certain you have the time to do so.

Start With This:

"Ive tried them both.when I use the vnvram it goes to the user selection screen -which is something that does not happen in any other way- , So I pick the main user and it goes back to the apple logo screen, then the progress bar , then the white screen again..the reset the SMC does exactly what the tutorial says it will happen , but when I start the computer again it goes to the apple logo , progress bar , white screen again. I have no idea how I manage to go to the recovery mode that one time...I know that I used the command + R shortcut...but it doesnt work now"

Get this Mac Serviced...

Contact Apple, and setup a Genius Bar Appointment at your local Apple Store or see an AASP (Apple Authorized Service Provider) in your local area. Have them diagnose the issue.

A. Contact Apple:

  • Contact Us - Choose Locations
  • Proceed from there as Necessary
  • NOTE: Due to the Coronavirus Pandemic, calls are taking a bit linger to get through. And, that makes sense, because many are at home working out-of-the-house or are taking classes over-the-web, this they have more time on their hands to contact Apple Support. So, it might take a bit to get through to Apple Support. But, just stay on the line, and someone will be with you.

Or...

B. Contact an AASP:

  1. Go Here: Find Locations - Apple Authorized Reseller
  2. Click: Service & Support
  3. Enter: your location information
  4. See: if there is an AASP nearby
  5. Contact: an AASP that shows up, and find out more about the services that they offer to fix the Mac

Thank you for the photo.

Mount the Drive:

Probably because you have yet to mount the drive. To mount the drive, boot up in Recovery Mode [Hold Down: command + R upon boot] and then select Disk Utility. From there, mount the drive. If it is already mounted, then unmount it and then mount it. Also, click the First Aid button for each volume of the drive.
