Since updating to sonoma my Macbook Air won't charge

It may not be related at all and just a coincidence but my MacBook Air was working completely fine until the first Sonoma update. The laptop ran out of charge while I was using it, it switched off and now it won't charge past 5%.

At first, I thought it was the charger so I bought an original Apple charger for it and the problem continues. I have checked the system and ran a battery health check and it shows as fine. The charging port has to be working fine as whenever it runs out of the 5% charge it manages to get, it will charge it back up to 5% again.

I have turned off the optimised battery charging and nothing. The other thing that happened right after the update is that the clock/date changed to the wrong date/time and it would not update automatically despite selecting the right region, I had to do it manually!

Has anyone else had this problem? please help! I use my laptop for my uni work.

Thanks.

MacBook Air 13″, macOS 14.1

What type of Mac do you have? If it is a 2018, 2019 or 2020 intel variant you want to reset the SMC

If you have a MacBook with the T2 security chip (13 inch 2018, 2019 and. 2020) follow these steps to reset the smc

Laptop computer with the T2 chip

Before resetting the SMC, follow these steps:

  1. Shut down your Mac, if possible.
  2. Press and hold the power button for 10 seconds, then release the button.
    • Every Mac has a power button. On laptop computers that have Touch ID, press and hold Touch ID.
  1. Wait a few seconds, then press the power button to turn on your Mac.

If the issue persists, reset the SMC:

  1. Shut down your Mac.
  2. On your built-in keyboard, press and hold all of the following keys. Your Mac might turn on.
    • Control on the left side of your keyboard
    • Option (Alt) on the left side of your keyboard
    • Shift on the right side of your keyboard
  1. Keep holding all three keys for 7 seconds, then press and hold the power button as well. If your Mac is on, it will turn off as you hold the keys.

  1. Keep holding all four keys for another 7 seconds, then release them.
  2. Wait a few seconds, then press the power button to turn on your Mac.
