Phone stolen and apple ID password changed and no access to phone number

I am contacting through my family members apple ID and username. Currently I live in Kenya and my phone got stolen last week. According to a notification I received earlier this week, my phone has been located in England. They had already changed my phone password and I had forgotten the email for my Apple ID until my family member gotten an email claiming they had changed my apple ID password. I cannot verify or receive text messages to this number as it was connected to my dutch phone number, which is where im from. The Dutch sim card was in my phone and i had a kenyan E-sim, so they must have changed my apple ID using my dutch sim card to which the account was connected. I now am unable to access my apple ID as they have changed the password and now have access to everything on my phone. I hope you can help me to block my apple ID so they no longer have access.

The notification you received was most likely the person who stole your device. Even though you got a message that the password was wrong, it still gives the password you entered to the thief and they were then able to take over your account.

The link provided in the previous post has instructions to start the account recovery process if you are unable to change your password. Account Recovery may take some time as Apple needs to be able to prove you are the correct owner of the Apple ID and the process is quicker if you have a Trusted Device or Trusted Phone number that had previously been set up with your Apple ID. If not, the process could take up to 30 days.

In addition to that link, here is more information about Account Recovery when you do not have access to your account.

Note that notifications received after your phone has been stolen are most likely coming from the thief attempting to get you to give them your Apple ID Password.

  • Did you enter any messages in Find My to contact you if found?
  • Did you respond to ant notification by entering your password?

Changing your Apple ID Password can only be done if they have access to your current Password/Passcode. Has this information been given to anybody?

Thank you for the response. I did in fact request a notification for an alert if logged into through FindMy. I also attempted to log in by clicking the link sent to my kenyan phone number stating “your iphone — has been accessed my passcode. If it was not you, lock it now”- followed by that link. It initially asked for my phone password, which was stated as wrong, so it was already changed im assuming. Now, when trying to log into my apple ID, the password has also already been changed since it was connected to the sim card that I cant get another one of with the same number as I am not in the country. Im assuming they had guessed my phone password and from there got a code sent to the inserted Dutch sim card to change my apple ID password, but im not sure. A couple minutes ago, when now going to my Imessages, it states “Imessage is signed out”. So i have no more control over the Kenyan number either.

I appreciate the link to the article by Apple, but none of those options are available for me, as I dont have the correct password or access to the phone number. Are there any other options?
