HomePod Stereo Pair not working with apple TV 4k

i just purchased a new homepod mini to pair with my existing one and use as the default stereo speaker for my apple tv. it didnt work.

all is set up and updated, successfully paired, but when i play something through my apple tv, it only plays in mono and only one home pod works.

i tried everything, restarting, rebooting, resetting, unplugging, messing around with all related settings, pairing and unpairing, nothing works.

its worth to note that when i disconnect the pair from ATV, and play music through my phone, Stereo sound works.

also when i use the pair as a "temporary sound output" on ATV the stereo also works, but this comes with a whole set of volume muting/unmuting problems, and i dont see myself sticking up with this solution on the long term.

only when i use the pair as the "default audio output" it doesnt work. and i need it to work, so any help is appreciated!

this is my first time experiencing such an issue with apple products especially regarding the seamless eco-system. yesterday i was so frustrated i was halfway through the door to go back and return it to the store

if it’s the Apple TV causing issues you might try troubleshooting this more.

First try restarting Apple TV to see if this helps.

Restart HomePods, either from the Home App or by unplugging for 10 seconds.


if none of the above helped:

  • in Apple TV users & accounts, sign out of the default iCloud account
  • Restart Apple TV
  • After it restarts, sign back into iCloud
  • In Apple TV settings, set up AirPlay & HomeKit again, assigning the ATV to the same room as HomePods.

[check the ATV is showing up in the Hone App to be sure you successfully added it to HomeKit]

  • set the HomePods as the default audio in Audio settings


Then test this again

Set up home theater audio with HomePod or HomePod mini and Apple TV 4K - Apple Support
