For years nothing is listed in the Search list when I type in a name or email I know I have

I can search my emails on my iPad. It works just fine. But on the iMac not a single thing ever shows up no matter what I type into the Search box. No filters are on. What gives?

iMac 27″ 5K, macOS 12.4

Then its time to review your Spotlight Search Results selection in the Preference panel, Spotlight reindex your startup drive by dragging and dropping Macintosh HD icon ointo the Spotlight Privacy pane, then removing it. Wait a few minutes for the Spotlight re-indexing to complete.

Every search on your Mac depends on two things: 1) a properly Spotlight indexed startup drive, and 2) a properly formatted search request.
