Unlock a Mac when found

I had a work Mac that unbeknownst to me was tagged to my “find my” account for my iPhone and personal iPad, I don’t know how but when looking for my phone I must have hit that account and now my former employer cannot use the MacBook as it’s locked. How can we unlock it - then I can remove it from my account. HELP!!
