Office 2016 and monterey

Hello,

I upgraded from El Capitan to Monterey and my outlook is offline.

I have office 2016 which was working perfectly, I regret so much that I listen to the support team and upgraded :( :(

How can I make it work again?

Please help.

Thank you

MacBook Air 13″, macOS 12.7

Microsoft only supports the current Office 2021 for Mac (single-purchase), or current Microsoft 365 applications (subscription) on macOS Monterey, Ventura, and Sonoma. In Fall 2024, Microsoft will drop support for Monterey, so even if you installed Office 2021 for Mac today, you would receive no further updates to it next Fall on Monterey.

Although you can Google Stack Social and find a current Office 2021 for Mac home and business suite for around $30, it might make more sense to obtain a very good Microsoft Office clone (Softmaker Office 2024) that avoids Microsoft's planned obsolescence with their three-year operating system support window.

And there is the free LibreOffice Suite, also a Microsoft Office clone.

You will need to get Office 2021 or an Office 265 subscription. The single Office 365 subscriptio is currently $69.99/year. The family subscription is a much better deal at $99.99/year for up to 6 people.

It may be time to consider using Pages, Numbers & Keynote instead of MS Office. They can all open & save Office docs, so you would still be able to open & edit your existing Office docs.

Check the Microsoft Office website to see what version of Microsoft Office is compatible with your Montery operating system. Install the compatible version of Microsoft Office.

Apple's applications do not allow editing of the original Microsoft documents. They translate them into Apple document formats and that process is neither guaranteed to work flawlessly, or at all. Microsoft documents exported from Apple's applications undergo another translation and may not appear the same in Microsoft applications as they do in the Apple applications. Even in Quick Look.

This is why I do not mention Apple's products in my preceding post. The applications I do mention open Microsoft documents in their native document format without translation.

Microsoft only supports the last three major releases of macOS. In Fall 2024, with the introduction of the next release of macOS after Sonoma, Monterey will drop off Microsoft's list of macOS support. Though Office 2021 for Mac will continue to work on Monterey, it will receive no further autoupdates from Microsoft on Monterey, nor will Microsoft permit new installations of Office 2021 for Mac on Monterey.

The Microsoft 365 applications are licensed differently than the single-purchase Office 2021 for Mac applications. If your Outlook is requesting Microsoft 365, then it is a subscription-based version of Outlook. Office 2021 for Mac comes with Outlook in the installer.

Agreed. I wanted to encourage the OP to try out the Apple apps and let him/her know that it didn't mean they would lose all their previous Office docs.

FWIW, Keynote is where I have seen the biggest differences on import or export. Pages & Numbers not so much.

I dont understand what you said about 2021, if I buy it now it will not be supported in fall 2021?

Office Mac 2021 officially has a 5-year support window, and we are already 2 years into that support period. However, that doesn't mean Office 2021 stops working in 2026; you will continue to be able to use it, it just won't get any more updates. (And for full disclosure you would have to watch out for some future macOS version that Office Mac 2021 may not be compatible with. Just sayin'.)

Office 365, in contrast, has ongoing support as long as you continue to be a subscriber.
