Digital Library: OverDrive vs Libby app for borrowing/returning

OverDrive and Libby are the two apps public libraries use to allow borrowing/returning ebooks. Using M2 (2022) MacAir with Monterey OS and Safari browser, recently OverDrive is freezing on check out; but a 2015 Air (Monterey OS & Safari) works fine.

Have changes in the OverDrive app recently stopped working with the M2 Mac? Libby which works together with OverDrive works beautifully but it is not as user friendly as OverDrive which I prefer using.

Librarians consulted say both functions are being improved constantly, but don't seem to be able to go further than that.

Am I limited to Libby for borrowing/retuning books at the public library: if using the M2 Air?
