I have tried for about a year to change my appleid.

When I ask it to change my appleid to an email address I have used for years outside of the apple environment, the system tells me that email is not available. As far as I know, I've never used that email as my appleid or anywhere else in the apple environment.

I have tried to change my appleid to this new one for about 1 year.

So I have two questions:

1) how do I find out where apple thinks this email is being used within their environment?

2) how do I change to this appleid?

1) You would have to ask Apple that. Nobody on the forums would know.

2) This is what Apple says and all I (or probably anybody else) knows about it:

From: Change your Apple ID - Apple Support

"If you see a message that the email address you want to use isn't available or is already in use, check that you or a family member aren't already using that email address with a different Apple ID. If a family member is using that email address, remove it from their account then try to use it."

Conceivably if Gmail lets people use old email addresses, you may have one that somebody else used previously with Apple. If Apple has seen it before they will never let you use it except as a notification address.

I have tried for about a year to change my appleid.
