Remove VIP mailbox from Mac?

On my MacBook Pro (15 inch, 2017 build, running Ventura 13.6.1), in the default Mail app (version 16.0), I have a VIP mailbox set up which I no longer use. I want to remove it. All the help answers I have found assume I have a message from the senders classified as VIP. I don't. I cleaned out that mailbox quite some time ago. So, how do I get rid of the VIP mailbox, or barring that, remove senders without having an email from them? (The senders are still listed in the sidebar, but there is no option to remove, and no filled in star to uncheck)

Show emails from VIP senders in Mail on Mac

Excerpt from above link specific to Ventura

Remove someone’s VIP status

  1. In the Mail app  on your Mac, select a message from the VIP.
  2. Move the pointer next to their name in the message header, then click their star
  3. The person’s VIP mailbox is removed from the Mail sidebar and the Favorites bar; their messages remain in the Inbox.
