iMessages not syncing between MacBook & iPhone

I have a new MacBook Pro with Sonoma 14.1.2 and an iPhone 13 Pro with iOS 17.2. I'm having trouble getting iMessage on my MacBook to match the messages on my iPhone. This was also an issue on my previous MacBook with Big Sur. I have text forwarding and syncing enabled, but my MacBook even shows different favorite contacts compared to my iPhone. I've tried syncing and logging in and out, but nothing has worked so far.

MacBook Pro 14″, macOS 14.1

Yes it is but i just noticed its saying messages hasn’t been backed up since 2022. I don’t know how that’s possible I have backup to iCloud turned on and it said it synced earlier today. Hmm. When I hit the sync now button it just flashes and nothing happens

Yes, that would be too easy a solution, wouldn't it? Sorry, I don't have any ideas beyond that other than to check the your data is the same in your Contacts on both devices, that your own Contact card is set as yours on your new Mac (Contacts menubar > Card > Make this my card), and that you have allowed contact to your phone number and iCloud address within Messages.
