Finder Sidebar not showing on MacBook Air with MacOS Sonoma 14.1.2

Mac OS Sonoma 14.1.2 ticked all the places I want in the Finder settings sidebar but it does not show up the sidebar. All I see is in the sidebar are faded Favorites and a faded iCloud.

What has happened to my Side Bar in Finder? All of a sudden since I turned my MacBook Pro on, the Side Bar in the "Finder" has changed and it does not list where I am keeping my files (Airdrops, Desktop, Downloads, Documents, etc.) It just shows location " My MacBook Pro". When I go into "Preferences" it shows all the listings to be used in sidebar. How could this have happened since I closed it down? How can I get this back to my original sidebar?

MacOS Monterey - Finder Sidebar lost my preferences After my upgrade to Monterey, the sidebar of my Finder only has : iCloud iCloud Drive Shared Locations Hammerhead (computer name) Dropbox Macintosh HD While my Finder Preferences shows a different story: Why is this? I tried dragging items into the sidebar, that does nothing. Grr.

Finder Preferences -> Sidebar The finder sidebar is missing a few items: the home directory, documents, music, pictures and movies. I go to: Finder Preferences -> Sidebar where I tick all the items. The finder sidebar stays the same, and if I leave the sidebar preferences and return, they're unticked again! It seems that Finder is determined not to allow me to have these in my sidebar? Why? I do have my user account on a separate drive, but, surely, this has been a normal thing to do for a very long time.
