Apple Podcast fast forward

When double clicking using Apple wired headphones to fast forward a Podcast, it now remains at 2x speed instead of reverting to normal 1x listening speed. This necessitates going into the podcast app to change speed to 1x normal speed. Is this a new “feature” in the Podcast app?

Absolutely maddening. I listen to podcasts mostly in my car and use the fastforward button on my dashboard to get through ads... and it speeds up to fly through them but then it won't stop and continues ripping through the podcast itself at 2x. I'm DRIVING and have to pick up my phone and maneuver to the speed control on the podcast and slow it down. WTF were they thinking? If this is the permanent feature now, I'm going to have to find a new podcast app because it's not safe to do this while driving. Apple continuously screws up its apps and makes features SO annoying that they ruin the experience.

I visited my local Apple Store to get some clarification on this change of function thinking it might be a hardware issue I.e. my wired headphones. They were unaware of this change of functionality after determining the headphones were not the issue. I have tried over several weeks to get some confirmation that this indeed is either a purposeful change in functionality or a confirmed issue. Would like to hear from others. This change appeared when I updated to IOS 17. Thanks for taking the time to comment on your issue. Hopefully we get some clarification.
