2 iPhones sharing same Apple ID password

I bought a new iPhone and gave my son my old one without rebooting it. So we are sharing the same Apple ID password. The only problem I can detect so far is when he takes any photos they also show up on my phone. How can this be resolved without me losing precious pictures I have on my new phone which are on both phones as of now

Two people should NEVER share the same Apple ID. What you should have done before giving your son your old iPhone is detailed in this link and it is what you should do --> What to do before you sell, give away, or trade in your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support

By not doing this, not only will your data be shared between the two of you, but your son will be able to read your texts, see who you call, receive your voicemail messages, etc.

Here is a link explaining why each person needs their own Apple ID --> Make sure that each family member has a unique Apple ID - Apple Support

Then you can set up Family Sharing to share contents, such Apps Storage, etc. --> Make sure that each family member has a unique Apple ID - Apple Support

And if your son is a minor, you should be using Parental Controls to manage what content he can access on his phone --> Use parental controls on your child's iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch - Apple Support

You are not only going to share photos but also Messages, Contacts, Notes etc. This is because you are sharing the same Apple ID. The best way to address this is to set up your son’s iPhone with his own Apple ID. One that is done, then use Family Sharing to control what gets shared between the two iPhones. More information on 👉 Family Sharing.

If you still want to continue to share the Apple ID and want to stop photos from being shared between two iPhones, then on your son’s iPhone, open Settings ➡️ Photos ➡️ iCloud Photos: Set this switch to OFF.
