Where does itunes save my downloaded photos from my ipad?

There are notes online as to how to download your photos from you iPad to your PC, but I'll be danged if I can even FIND them! They give zero information as to where to look. I've previously been able to find a photo, I think, if I know the exact file name and if I search the entire C: drive for it. But why is it so difficult to do something that's so simple? Shouldn't the file location be displayed (as with most software!), perhaps for the reason you might want to change the folder?

Apple are suggesting you use the Windows Photos app to import photos from your device. See https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/import-photos-and-videos-from-an-iphone-to-pc-2e4e4db4-4c3d-041c-b88f-3ee4358dd95e. Presumably you would interrogate that to see where it has copied images. Alternatively you can explore the content of your iPad while it is connected to your computer and open the DCIM folder to copy off files to your PC.
