tvOS 17.2 Apple TV App Wishlist

I have just updated to 17.2 on both of my 4K ATVs (2017 and 2021 model), the new ATV app is nice and all, certainly faster than the old Movies and TV Series app, especially the TV Series app when it comes to a show like 'Supernatural', where it would often take 20 to 30secs to load everything in.

HOWEVER, what I don't like is both my wishlist (from the Movies app), and favourites (from the TV series app) are completely gone.

I had almost 200 movies in my wishlist, and now, nothing, they are just gone.

Granted the wishlist / favourites on the ATV never synced with any other device (eg. if I looked at iTunes on my PC, or the store on my iPad, I could never see what I had wishlisted or favourited on my ATV), but still.

It would have been nice if those could have been rolled into the new ATV app and force-synced with the rest of the Apple ecosystem.

I guess I should have been more prepared and manually gone through both and written down everything that was in there, but still.

I will never be able to manually rebuild those 2 lists :(

So it was pointed out to me by someone that the Movies app has now been updated to have a 2nd tab in the menu when you open it.

It defaults to the 'iTunes Movies' tab where you can either 'Library' or 'Purchase' and they will take you to the ATV+ app.

However 'Wishlist' has now appeared as the 2nd tab, and it shows your original wishlist as it stood before updating to tvOS 17.2.

So Apple listened to us :D

I just took a look, I didn't have 'almost 200 movies' in my wishlist...

When I went into it, 6 movies per row, I have exactly 49 rows of movies in my wishlist, which brings my wishlist number to 294, so it was 'almost 300 movies' :P

Yeah, right, make threatening statements about using something else if you don't get your way. That will get you precisely nowhere on these forums. If you did the same with your feedback it will likely go straight to the trashcan. What you should have done is state your case logically, reasonably, and with examples of why you want the feature returned.

No one here is an Apple employee, just volunteer users. We have no interest in what you do. If you think switching to Amazon Prime will be a better experience then go right ahead,

This is really frustrating because it reads as passively hostile toward customers. This couldn’t possibly have been a hard feature to preserve from an engineering perspective. It was the one place in all of technology where my own preferences for movie recommendations had stayed safe from subscription services that came and went, and now it’s gone. I’d been amassing recommended movies to rent or buy — and yes, I would actually pull from that list multiple times a year — since I was in college.

It was already frustrating that the Apple TV app had fragmented the tagging mechanism by having “Add to Watchlist” in iTunes, and “Add to Next Up” in the Apple TV app. And now both are gone? Huge bummer.

To those who don’t think apple monitors this community they must definitely do. I’d still leave feedback on the help site, but they definitely see these comments. They just don’t care.

I will never rent another movie from Apple if they don’t fix this. Amazon has basically the same library. Its probably time to buy a Roku as well.

Seriously, this is a dumpster fire.

also, there is almost no way they fix this. Those list are likely gone.

When you go into the Movies or TV Series apps on an updated ATV, it gives you 2 options, 1 is to go to the store, the other is to go to your purchases.

Whichever option you choose, it takes you to the necessary section of the ATV+ app.

If you created your wishlist on your iPhone, then you wouldn't be able to view it on an ATV in the Movies or TV Series apps.

Both the Movies and TV Series apps had their own separate wishlist/favourites section, completely separate from any other Apple Device.

You cannot view your wishlist/favourites that you set up on either of those apps using iTunes on an iPhone, iPad, OSX device, or Windows PC, as they aren't synced to iTunes.

iTunes on a Windows PC has been relegated to podcasts only now too.

The list has been available on all logged in ATV devices since the original Apple TV 4 HD.

I believe on the ATV 3 the lists were separate, but I never used either of the apps on either of my ATV 3 devices.

I am super ****** about the AppleTV app merg too, but for other reasons. TV series are all sorts of mixed up now if you own partials and complete series of the same show. If you own "bundles" that are no longer for sale on the store, they're also difficult to navigate and mixed in on 1 "season" tab. Its an absolute joke of an update, and since there's no way to roll back the OS on a ATV4k 5th gen, I'm stuck navigating this garbage.

If it helps, I would recommend downloading CheapCharts on your iPhone to track wish list items, its 100x better than Apple's built in "wish list" ever was.

We are not that important to Apple. We are just going along for the ride. This is just how Apple operates. My suggestion is this move helps Apple customers to curb their spending and use of Apple products and movies. If you don’t like what they’ve done, then stop purchasing Apple’s products: movies, music. Inform others to do the same, and keep moving. Apple just helped me to curb my spending on their movies. I can direct my spending elsewhere: DVDs or blue ray or the upcoming new format after blue ray and DVD are replaced. No company operates on less revenue. When Apple understands this, then maybe, just maybe they will consider the people who keep them in business. Long gone are the days Steve Jobs was in control, and did things to excite Job’s customer base. Apple is no longer controlled by Steve Jobs, and the individuals who control it now operate in a think tank quite opposite from the creator of the company. Lob your complaint, but find another outlook for your spending.

They want to merge everything into ONE program they say. Fine.

Now AppleTv is a MESS.

Everything is cramped together on one page :

I want to rent and watch movies, I dont want "advertising" about tv series

I want to rent and watch movies, I dont want "advertising" about AppleTv+

I want to rent and watch movies, I dont want "advertising" about other streaming services

Its a mess. The young restless people probably love this caos

I am older, I know what I want, and I do not do Impulse purchases.

I disagree with the comment's suggestion that it's somehow incumbent upon the users to rationalize for the company their disappointment with the removal of the feature, unannounced. Rather, it's intuitive to expect that the company would instead provide rationale to the USERS for the removal of the feature, and offer the users a path to retrieving the data listed within the feature.

As it stands, the feature is gone, its deletion was unannounced, and users have not been offered recourse to recover their data. I see no reason the users' collective disappointment should go into the trashcan -- that would seem only to reaffirm a refusal to admit the mistakes, which will only further deteriorate the users' confidence in the product.
