SLOW Mac mini

Hi, I have just bought a Mac mini online, although I was told its gone work as normal it has not. The Mac mini is extremely slow (its late 2014 version). I have tried to update it, cleared space, nothing has helped so long. Is there anything else I can do to fix it?
