External display screen not working as expected with MacBook Pro 16" M2 connected?

i tried connecting my macbook pro to my hp omen 27 in monitor using a usbc to display port adapter, and the screen is all messed up. tried different ports, could it be the cable?

LG display not detected on Macbook Air M2 2022 Plugging LG display in to my MacBook Air via USB-C cable that came with display charges laptop but does not detect display. The display turns on when I plug in my iPad Air 5 to the same USB-C cable so it's not a cable or display issue. When I changed my 'Allow accessories to connect' setting to "ask every time", the dialog box appears and disappears every few seconds. Even when I manage to click Allow, nothing happens. I've tried a couple other cables (Belkin thunderbolt 3 and OWC thunderbolt 4), restarting, putting laptop to sleep... and nothing has worked. Anyone else have the same issue and found a solution? Ventura external display issue When connected via USB-C, my MacBook Pro’s display and the external display become garbled and unusable. Any solution for this? 🥲

If this is the one, it has DisplayPort v1.4 and HDMI v2.0 inputs. HP says it has 1920x1080 resolution and can run at a refresh rate of 165 Hz. I suspect the Mac would prefer to drive it at a refresh rate of 60 Hz.

There are several HP Omen 27 monitors with letters after the "27" which have other resolutions. If you have one of those, please clarify that.
