So, iCloud backs up my photos from my iPhone and downloads them to my Photo albums on my MacBook Air without me asking. Great! But, when I am off-line, I can't edit these photos that are on my MacBook Air. They are on my MacBook Air, but not really? So, what is the deal? Is there some basic explanation to all this for new users? Link?

If you optimize your photo storage on your Mac, then only lower-res images are available. When you edit, the originals are downloaded.
If you do not optimize storage, your originals are on the Mac and can be edited at will.
I have changed the setting. But the pix that were downloaded in my MacBook Air are still in low-res or not editable. Is there a command somewhere to change the downloaded pix to full res or do I need to by-pass iCloud and redo the transfer myself.

I changed the setting to download originals. But the photos that were previously downloaded in the optimized setting are still not editable. What is the protocol now to change the resolution of those photos? Or do I have to redownload these images myself?
