iphone updated to IOS 17.2 (21C62) its hanging and not work probably

i too had same issue .. A solution which worked for me -

Go to settings --> Contacts > Siri and search-->Disable Contact suggestions, App in search etc. It worked and now contact search working now.

Restart and other options did not work. Please try disabling siri for contacts temporarily and hope the bug will be fixed in upcoming updates.

This issue is apparently an incompatibility between the latest 17.2 and up and most VPN systems. Removing the VPN will allow the iPhone to function normally, but this will eliminate your ability to connect securely with your corporate profile and resources. It’s been heard that Apple will be releasing a new iOS version in mid January where is incompatibility is corrected.

Try and Force Restart your iPhone EXACTLY as shown below and see whether that resolves the issue:

• Press and quickly release Volume UP button
• Press and quickly release Volume DOWN button
• Press and Hold the SIDE button until an Apple logo appears and then release the Side button (Can take up to 20 seconds. (DO NOT release Side Button when invited to Slide Power OFF).

I’m encountering the same issues and very annoyed. I’ve been talking to Apple support over messages and calls.

If you have a device management installed on your phone by your employer, such as VPN or Microsoft Intune, uninstalling it solves the problem. But I told the Apple staff that I need Intune installed for my work.

For Contacts: If you are syncing gmail contacts, toggling off gmail contacts, and then toggling on again, fully solves the problem with Contacts.

For WhatsApp: they say that it is WhatsApp problem, which I really disagree. The problem is triggered by iOS 17.2 as far as I know.

Uninstalling WhatsApp and installing again does not help at all.

Turning off Contacts sharing with WhatsApp helps, but then all message senders in WhatsApp simply appear as their phone numbers or nicknames (Settings > Privacy & Security > Contacts > WhatsApp).

The «disable Siri contact suggestions» method worked for me, too. (The restart method did not). Thanks!

I’ve disable “Show Contact Suggestions” and that solved the issue with the address book hanging. Now, when I place a call that takes 20 seconds or more to connect and the Apple Calendar freezes (I use Outlook). Anyone else experiencing the same?

Unfortunate to hear that. Since whatsapp is an app from app store- please try uninstalling and reinstalling ( after taking back up). Or not sure if Siri is causing problem there too :) we can disable in settings of whatsapp.

I am having the same issues. Phone calls take 30 seconds or more to connect and I can’t search for contacts in my address book. I did disable Siri contacts suggestions and that solved the address book issue temporarily.

I also find that the time it takes to connect a call once dialled can be up to 30 seconds. When touching the green dial button, it seems like the button is dead. Then, after a long wait, the call goes through, and eventually gets connected.

I’m having the same problem I use Watsapp on a daily basis due work I really rely on the search tab to search for vehicle reg and since the new update it’s become a big problem for our company we can’t search for any vehicle anymore. How will Apple fix this issue people with android are fine it’s only Apple iPhones
