Heart Rate Spikes New Apple Watch

I noticed that my new Apple Watch Series 9 was reporting abnormally high average heart rates when I exercise. I usually wear a MyZone chest heart rate monitor so I compared the readings for the same workout. The MyZone reported an average HR of 1o6 with a peak of 126. The Apple Watch was up and down with an average of 144 and a peak of 167. this is just an example. I see the same difference for multiple workouts. Did not see this behavior with my previous Series 6 watch. Any ideas on what is going on. Watch is tight on my wrist. Apple - help?

Check your own pulse at the radial (wrist) or carotid (neck), and see which monitor is closer to right.

A chest strap pulse monitor is usually more accurate.

Fit and position are the usual recommendations, then maybe un-pair and re-pair to reset, then a discussion with Apple.

Rather more expensive EMS monitors can misread during patient movement, sweating, and road irregularities, too.

I’ve seen routinely misreadings with earlier watches during moderate to heavy exercise.

Band and positioning and (lack of) movement all matter.

The trail band has worked the best of all I’ve tried.

If you have a chest strap, use that.

And if the readings diverge markedly from actual radial or carotid readings, discuss it with Apple.
