file explorer will not import my iphone pictures

I do not, nor do I want to use iCloud to copy my pictures from my iPhone 14 Pro Max using iOS 17.2 I have read hundreds of posts complaining of the same issue. Most replies say to use the photos app, which I also tried, but was not successful. I also followed the suggestions to repair the photos app, which also did not make anything work.

I want to use file explorer like I used to before the i0S updates caused the problem. I want to copy, delete, or move files using my Windows 10 Pro version 22H2.

Was making file explorer an attempt to force the use of iCloud to transfer files?

Is there still a way to use file explorer to copy my files from my iPhone to my Windows PC?

Windows, Windows 10
