when I was going to I unplugged my apple watch series 6 to wear while I was sleeping and I didn't know before i took it off that it was updating and now the apple watch apple on my phone is stuck preparing the update is this normal?

Similar issue. Phone's plugged in, watch is fully charged and on it's charging pad but the update seems stuck. It's been saying "Preparing" for the last 2 hrs or so. Any fix? Thanks.
Same issue on Ultra2 and 10.4. Tried multiple shutdown/restarts on 15promax. No success. Finally tried shutting down WiFi and using cell service. Broke free and completed install.
I performed a hard reboot on both of my devices and for an update that’s just under 1GB it’s sure taking a while
Switched off WiFi and the preparing freeze "thawed" !!! finished within a few minutes.

Tried deleting the update, still hung on second update attempt.
This worked! Keeping the watch face from locking on 10.4 update.
