iPad Pro port cleaning
I’ve wiped the contacts bright on the Belkin cable, but my 2017 iPad Pro still inconsistently charges. When I wiggle the connector while fully inserted in the port the charge indicator goes on and off. So sometimes when left overnight the device isn’t charged the next day. If I manage to hold the connector in a particular position it charges until I let go, where on it may or may not keep charging. It does the same with other lightning cords we have for other iPads. On examination the contacts within the port look discolored. I can’t tell if it’s just grunge or corrosion - one middle contact (prong?) is more silvery or grayer than the others and one end contact is dark.
iFixit contributors advise to have a reputable tech replace the receptacle, which in itself isn’t expensive, but the job takes time, care, expertise, and a steady micro-soldering hand which adds up cost-wise. They basically did not answer my inquiry about the safety of using electronic cleaner or alcohol on a micro-swab to try gently cleaning the port’s contacts. I don’t want to risk damaging a board or seal in doing so, but Apple Genius desks are not exactly nearby, and usually require far out appointments that in the past haven’t been punctual on their part.
Can I try cleaning the port as described with little risk of making things worse?
