Speedtest by Ookla won't work on Mac

On my Macbook Pro with Apple M1 running Mac OS 14.1.2, I can't get Speedtest by Ookla to work. I have tried wired and wifi. I have tried Firefox & Safari. I have tried the native app. I have turned off App & Website Activity. I have turned off Content & Privacy. None of these settings has any effect.

I have tried on my work Mac (intel i5 running zSclaer) and my iPhone on the same network, and both work. I ran all the same experiments on my work Mac, and I can't get it to break.

I had Freedom.to installed on my personal Mac, but didn't try on my work Mac. I uninstalled on my personal Mac, just to try, but it didn't help the problem.

Does anyone have any suggestions? Thank you for your time!

I turned off Screen Time > Content & Privacy > Content & Privacy and it didn't help. Then I restarted my Mac , and Speedtest worked!

I turned Content & Privacy back on, and Speedtest stopped working. I turned it back on--still didn't work. Restarted Mac and Spedtest worked again.

I consider this issue solved. However, I would love to whitelist Speedtest to get it to work, so I need to look into what sites it's hitting.

I just tested Speediest by Okla on my M2 MacBook Air and it runs just fine. Do you use a VPN, or have any anti-virus or "Mac Cleaners" installed on your Mac? Those simply aren't needed, and create more issues than they prevent.

You may want to update to MacOS Sonoma 14.2, as it's available now.

I don't use a VPN. I use Freedom.to, which is the closest thing to a VPN, but I uninstalled it in my testing. I do not have any anti-virus or Mac Cleaners.

Thanks for the upgrade tip! I did so, but same problem.

My work Mac has no issues with Speedtest, and it does run a VPN (zScaler).
