changing 3 x 2 aspect ratio in iMac photos Version 9.0 (610.3.110)

when changing 3 x 2 aspect ratio in iMac photos Version 9.0 (610.3.110) to 6 x 4 ratio for printing it always reverts to 3 x 2. Previous versions always retained the new size. what can be done to keep 6 x 4 aspect in custom size?

The aspect ration is indeed a ratio: 3:2 really means 3/2 which is 1.5-- the width is one and a half times as big as the height. And 6:4 means 6/4= 1.5, exactly the same thing! So a 6 inch by 4 inch picture has a 3:2 aspect ratio.

You're good to use 3:2.

Just ran a test and my Photos does keep the previous custom size.

Give this a try: boot into Safe Mode according to How to use safe mode on your Mac and test to see if the problem persists. Reboot normally and test again.

NOTE 1: Safe Mode boot can take up to 3 - 5 minutes as it's doing the following;

• Verifies your startup disk and attempts to repair directory issues, if needed

• Loads only required kernel extensions (prevents 3rd party kernel/extensions from loading)

• Prevents Startup Items and Login Items from opening automatically

• Disables user-installed fonts

• Deletes font caches, kernel cache, and other system cache files

NOTE 2: if you have a wireless keyboard with rechargeable batteries connect it with its charging cable before booting into Safe Mode. This makes it act as a wired keyboard as will insure a successful boot into Safe Mode.

Have you installed and run any "cleaning", "optimizing", "speed-up", anti-virus or VPN apps on your Mac?
