Will using the new 70watt charger for the MacBook Air 15" degrade the battery sooner than the standard 35watt

Just purchased the MacBook Air 15" from Best Buy so it only came with the standard dual port 35w charger. I see where when purchased from Apple there is an option for the 70watt charger, to per se, fast charge it. Will using the 70w charger degrade the battery life at a noticeable rate vs the 35w charger

iPhone 15 Pro Max, iOS 17

The following support article should answer your question:

tl:dr - No, it will not degrade the laptop's battery. The actual charging circuity is built-into the laptop itself. It controls the amount of current, coming from the power adapter, to maintain a charge on the internal battery.

The charger is just a power source. The device takes up to as much energy as it can charge the battery without damaging the battery. I bought an Apple USB-C 140W GaN charger on sale for 79€ (which is a good price) and I charge everything with it at the maximum possible speed. I charge both iPad and iPhone 15 Pro Max with it and without any problems.

FWIW. Hmm, we have a couple M1 MacBook Airs here, with their original 35W power adapters. We normally use them connected to power, but when we do use them on battery, we never let them drop below 25%. With that said, it only takes about 1.5 to 2 hours to fully charge them. Your experience may be different.

However, if fast charging is critical to you, then the 70W adapter may be the one you want.

Very good information. I like that you used the word critical. I don't think I would say fast charging is critical. I think I may just save my cash and stick with the 35w brick. I do like how compact the dual port 35w brick is for this MacBook. Im super stoked. I am coming from an M1 Air but it was time for the kid to have something, so I handed it down to him and got this air 15". Easier on my eyes and love the 16gb ram.

I assumed it would most likely be okay to charge using the 70w brick since Apple now has that as a free upgrade option, I just wasn't sure of peoples experiences either way, so thank you much!!
