Since i updated my iphone 15 pro max to 17.2, I have a message that says "syncing paused" at the bottom of my imessage screen. Forcing it to sync doesn't fix it. I see others are having the same issue.

All, understand the frustration. As before, mine was not simply fixed by installing 17.3. My recommendation is to install 17.3, then do the following on a device by device basis, but wait until it finishes on one before starting another. Example:
1.) install 17.3 on iPhone
2.) reboot iPhone after install
3.) Settings > iCloud > Show All Apps > Messages in Cloud > Sync Now
4.) Let it finish. It’s going to take awhile.
Then do the same with other devices having the issue. One by one. Let the sync finish before starting the next one.
it is march. 17.4. Still same issue. Still no fixes. God, iOS is not on the mood these times. Smoothness disappearing with these little details.
Hasn’t been fixed yet for me. Wish I had never upgraded - nothing but problems - won’t back up either - should have stayed on my old iPhone…

iOS 17.4.1 still does not fix this
I followed all those instructions, but it still says it’s not sinking. The thing I did realize is that my cloud is completely full to the brim, could that be the issue?
same here i have tried hitting “sync now” many times and it says syncing only to switch back to syncing paused withing few seconds

I am currently running the latest update 17.4 and the issue is still on going for me. My wife’s new phone that just updated tonight is doing the same thing. So still no big fix sent out at this time
I can attest - James' fix worked for me.
Also having one errant conversation that seems to not have synced. Very odd, but the only issue I've encountered thus far.
iOS 17.5 was released today, surprise surprise, this is STILL an ongoing issue. Come on Apple, it's been the best part of a year at this point and my messages still won't sync to iCloud.
i have had nothing but issues after issues with my new 15 pro max and syncing issues the profile in iMessage are always changing it’s just one thing after another

I wasn't able to get any help out of Apple Support when I went to them w/ this problem. They just told me to contact my carrier ultimately. I don't think they realize how widespread this problem is for folks.
