Need older version of iMovie

I'm having the same issue:

When I try to open iMovie this is what happens:

In order to use "iMovie", you need to update to the latest version.

The version of iMovie installed on this Mac is not compatible with macOS Monterery. You have "iMovie" 10.1.14. Download version 10.4 for free from App Store.

When you search App Store it says you need macOS 13.5 or later.

Then it says the OS is updated.

A vicious cycle with getting no closer to my iMovie app which I use all the time.

Are you using your mom's User Account and Apple ID....?

If you go to the Mac App Store, Log-in and select Updates, it should give you the iMovie and GarageBand versions for the macOS.

If that doesn't help, go to Account in the App Store and check in Purchased section.

The current version is iMovie 10.4. It requires macOS 13.5 (Ventura) or later. (This was an issue for the OP; their Mac couldn't run anything later than Monterey.). I did not suggest digging out old incremental versions from the App Store listings.

The incremental versions are only offered for Update, based on the macOS version.

Monterey 12.7.2 is not going to be enough to help with the main App Store listings, if the App Store is checking for Ventura 13.5 or later. It might be worthwhile for the OP to recheck the Purchased section, though.

The OP said in an earlier post that (emphasis mine)

Unless updating to 12.7.2 suddenly opens up new options in the Purchased section of the App Store, it appears that the OP is stuck between a rock and a hard place.

Update Monterey to 14.7.2.. Then open the Mac App Store and select Updates, there you should be offered the Pages, Numbers, Keynotes and iMovie 10.3.8 updates.
