how to check if it is the power cord or the power port when it is not working

Light on power cord magsafe 3 started blinking and then just stopped. I am not sure if I need to change the cord or if it is the power port on computer. I am now using an usb c to power and it is fine.

We have Apple Diagnostics: Use Apple Diagnostics to test your Mac - Apple Support, but it is of limited benefit. All it is really capable of doing is identifying the presence of operable hardware. On the other hand if it positively identifies a specific fault, it is certain to exist.

A more practicable solution is to substitute a known working MagSafe cable: USB-C to MagSafe 3 Cable (2 m) - Silver - Apple. If it doesn't work either, then it's likely the power port is in need of attention.

It's not a bad idea to have a spare cable on hand anyway.

The usual method is a visual inspection.

Read If the indicator light flashes in If your MagSafe cable or power adapter isn't working - Apple Support. At one time Apple included some helpful photographs but for some reason they omitted them in that more recent document in favor of a very generic "Use a dry cloth to wipe the MagSafe 3 port and MagSafe 3 connector. Make sure both the port and connector are dry and clear of any debris."

I suggest careful cleaning using a clean, dry, soft cloth or bristle brush. Do not use solvents or anything else that might exacerbate the problem.
