Page Numbers in Pages

In Microsoft Word and other word processor packages I can see how many pages there are in a document and also what page I am currently on out of the total number of pages. This is in the bottom left corner of the status bar at the bottom. Why can't I in Pages? Did Apple forget about this useful feature? If it is an option how do I enable it, and it begs the question about why it isn't automatically visible?

To clarify, I do not want to add page numbers to my document, I just want to be able to see the status of how many pages there actually are and which page I'm currently on, in the document for this Apple Mac Pages word processor program.

Hi there,

To see how many pages are in your document, you can choose the View --> Show Word Count option and then in the little bubble at the bottom of the screen, you can choose to show the number of pages in your document. I have included a small screen clip to show what the "bubble" looked like. I too wish there was something similar as to how line count, page count, and position were available in Pages, but there isn't. Hope this helps.

Pages was not developed by Microsoft nor was it designed by Apple to be a Word clone, so beyond the obvious, it will not show Word features such as you expect where Word displays them.

If you enable the thumbnail view, the current page's thumbnail will have a semi-transparent selection box around it and the page number index. These will change as you move through the document.

LibreOffice Writer, which is purposely designed to be a Word clone does show the page number in the expected location.

Apple designed Pages to their specifications, not what any other vendor provides in their application. Yes, there are things that one just shakes their head in bewilderment about feature omissions in a word processing application.

Since Apple is not in competition for marketshare, or revenue stream with Pages, it suffers in features one would expect in this type of application. Certainly beneath what Apple could improve if it were a revenue stream product again and its product roadmap received competitive commitment.
